Default What is normal shift speed and RPMs

Have 85 vette. Had the throttle cable tighten and the the governor gear changed (as per forum advice). My car before when shifting would kick in the each gear like it was manual. Now it is smooth but I notice it shift at 2500, 3000, then drop all the way down to 1000 before shifting into next gear. 1st and second, not so bad, but third and 4th seems like that is too low to go down and come back up. Also, from nuetral to drive it clunks and jerks. Mech said bring it back and he will adjust shifting from tranny. My rpms stary at like 900-600 then as I am driving and stopping 6.5 down to 5 and up. Normal or adjustments? Any ideas for me, I have been at the vette shop 4 times and can not get this automatic to shift and idle right! Thanks

Set the TV cable where it belongs. Don't you, or don't let anyone else, attempt to alter shift points or shifting characteristics, by changing the adjustment on the TV cable. It can easily cost you a transmission. If you want it to shift differently, you can buy yourself a governor recalibration kit.

There are at least 3 governors for the 700r4's. One is a low rpm diesel governor. The second is for typical passenger cars and the third is for corvettes. The vette gov will shift at approx 5200 rpm's. You may have the wrong one installed.

Where is the tv cable located? In the tranny or engine? I took the advice of forum and had the govener gear looked at. It was a little worn but O.K. Mech changed it any way. Car stopped dropping (clunking) in to gears and shifts smother. The throttle cable was lose so he tighten it. Some one on on forum had suggested that. It does drive different than when I got it. Are the 85's Automatics suppose to be real rough going into gear or shift smoothly??? Could the Mech have messed any thing up on made it better??? The only thing he did with tranny was put in a new govener gear since he had the old one out and it was a bit worn. Do not want to worry now about the tranny!!! It changes in to gears at about 3500 rpms and drops to 2000 or less before next shift. Driving slow it is different. Does a quicker shift. AHHH, This car is driving me nut'z. I love it, but I want to be worry free driving it. Appreciate any help, or advice or suggestions or knowledge on the 85 Corvette's Thanks so much...NIKKI

Nikki, did you ever solve your shifting problem?
