With a 4spd auto and 2.59 gears, the drive train hasn't accumulated that much wear and tear if it hasn't been beat on much. Some of you are talking as if a gear change is going to make the engine fall out. I mean we're talking 3.07's, not 4.11's. In my opinion, they never should have optioned a Vette with 2.59's in the first place.

I'm not trying to put you or your ideas down. Just look at what you said and if you don't see my logic, have a good day.

I'm with LT4 and Bruce.
As an only car, your DD needs to be, above all else, reliable.
There are two classes of cars: transportation cars and project cars.
A Corvette can be either, but it can't be both at the same time.

Any genuine horsepower increase will come with a price tag, and that price isn't just dollars.

Make a wise choice.

Not for nothing guys, and I truly mean no disrespect, but I think you've gotten a little OT on this one. The question asked was how to make his car feel a little faster. He wasn't asking for help on planning his financial future.

The 2.59 gearing is really the only thing I dislike about my 89. I will be changing that sometime soon I hope. I don't know if I'll spring for a D44 as I don't race and I drive pretty granny style most of the time.

When I was younger I had (still have but I need to work it over its been sitting for about 15 years) 66 GTO. I had 4.56 gears in it and when you hit the throttle it would put you in the seat.

Pound for pound, this Corvette is probably close to that car it just doesn't have the seat of the pants feeling.

Whoa,Whoa,

I did'nt mean for this thread to get heated guys, everybody just relax. I do appreciate all the great advise, and everyone who took the time to reply.

Overall I think I'm going to go with the gear change for now, it sounds like thats what I'm looking for. Its going into the shop this week to make sure that I won't hurt anything by doing this. My mechanic is awesome and I trust him completely, if he ends up telling me to wait until the rebuild in Feb. than thats what I'll do. Otherwise I'll at least get the seat of the pants feeling that I'm looking for.

I've also decided to take some of your advise and leave the engine alone until the rebuild. It runs great right now and I've decided not to screw with a good thing.

Thanks once again for all your help. I love this forum for the simple fact that everyone here is always willing to help the other guy and share their knowledge.

I'd share what I know but that would'nt get you very far!

Take care everyone and have a good night.
P.S. Pics of my beauty to come soon, once I get this freakin Kodak program working!
