I went to add some differential fluid to the rear on my vette, and I couldn't find an Allen wrench to fit the filter plug. I had some too big and some too small...
Does anyone know what size it takes to unscrew that plug?

I've got an '85 D44 but I'll bet it's the same. Mine's a 3/8" allen drive. In a pinch, take a bolt with that size of head on it, lock a couple of nuts together on the bolt then put the bolt head in the plug and turn it out with a wrench on the nut closest to the bolt head.

True for many vehicles but unless yours is different than all the Vette plugs I've dealt with, these are six sided. Something you could do with a more common tool wasn't difficult enough for these cars!
I ran into the same problem the other day while re-filling the trans in my son's S10. The hex in the plug was huge and I tried the bolt with two nuts trick then but the plug was so tight the nuts kept turning. It was late so I went to Auto Zone and they had a set of 3 sockets with different size hex or allen type heads on them, $7.99 and the big one worked like a charm. They had a set for std. and metric.

Just what size did "the big one" turn out to be???

I just checked the D36 is the shed and it a 3/8" allen just like my D44.
Sometimes I get frustrated by the mix of metric and standard used on these cars!!!

Cool, thanks for checking. That's the size I'll pick up then.
