Default Oil pressure sensor?

When I turn my car to on but do not start, my car reads 4 PSI of oil pressure on the dash gauge. Is my oil pressure sensor kaput? I've checked some parts places and they seem to only list the oil pressure switch. Any ideas?

Hmmm, I've never noticed the oil pressure before starting the engine in my '88.

There are indeed two units on the stalk behind the intake base:
-the oil pressure sw, for power to the fuel pump
-the oil pressure sender, for oil pressure to the ECM & gauges

Contemporary Corvette (link on my site) lists "P/N30344 ;84-'88 Oil Pressure Sensor - 1 blade - $37.

OK, I just checked it out:
-1psi just after I turn the ignition On
-2-3psi after a few seconds with engine still off

I won't replace my oil pressure sensor so long as it appears to read in the usual range with the engine running.

The Switch is one small part with prongs, the Sending unit is what actually sends the pressure reading. They are side by side on the back of the intake manifold behind the distributor.

Its likely the connection to the sender is going out, they do that as often as the sending unit itself goes out. Heat eats the wiring.

The metal wire inside the plastic will break down from heat?

Oil Pressure Sender/Switch.1 Ohms @ 0 PSI, 43 Ohms @ 30 PSI, 86 Ohms @ 60 PSI

I'll check it. Mine is never as low as 1 PSI though, usually it's at 4 PSI sometimes as high as 6 PSI, cold.

Thank you for the info!
