I'm getting a 383 forged short block. I found one for $2600 w/a 1 year unlimited milage warranty. Sounds good to me... i know a few others on here have bought the non forged versoin from this place and were more than happy with it. Are there any other places in this price range that I could look at for compairison? Thanks

Assuming the crank and rods are premium brands, those sound like some good parts. If they are assembled correctly it could be a solid engine....myabe even overkill. And that's always a good thing.

I'm pretty sure they will be using part number ESP-B12008030 from summit racing. I'm finding out for sure today. I'm also going to tell him I don't want a balancer, flexplate, or any "extra" stuff. Just the seasoned block with the rotating assem., cam bearings, and etc installed ready for me to drop it in the beast. As far as overkill goes... Sh*t, i would feel safer knowing that I am not going to have my pistons comming apart at 6k+ RPM's or a rod acting as a hole punch on my block.
The rods are 5.7" Vic'89
One question I do have is about Cam/Rod/crank clearance. I know in a 350 you don't have to worry about the cam grind and stroke... but on a 383 and above you do because of the increased stroke? This is the Cam Grind i have. With 5.7" rods and a 3.75" stroke do I have to worry about clearance issues?
I'll keep you all updated on the cost because I think its a pretty good deal for what it is... and have a warranty. Thanks again

The length of the rod has little or nothing to do with camshaft clearance. It all depends on the profile of the rods being used. Even with stock rods, the bolt heads can be ground to clear. Since this is "a 383 forged short block", I would expect that any and all clearancing has been done. ASK!. Then, when you get it, CHECK!

Learn something every day.... just didn't understand the clearance issues on a 383. Thanks CFI!
