Default steering ratio

Im curious as to what the steering ratio is on my 1995 convertible and what the numbers mean. (ex: 12:1) also what do these numbers mean in terms of how many turns lock to lock. I love the steering in my Vette and am looking to upgrade the steering box in my other car to make it as close to it as possible.
Thanks in advance

It is my impression that the two steering gears are the same for all C4s. My 1984 Specifications Manual states that the standard rack has a 15.5:1 ratio, and is 2.36 turns, lock to lock. The Z51 steering rack is a 13.0:1 ratio, and has 1.96 turns from lock to lock

Just curious, whats the other car?Ive always been fascinated with steering gear ratios and etc.Since you said Box,Im assuming its a non rack and pinion front end.Is that right? Also,I wonder if the Vettes rim and tire widths have a "faster feel" effect with the short ratios but in another car with smaller tires it wont feel as responsive...anyone know about that?

its a 1990 Camaro IROC-Z and yes it non rack and pinion. although the ratio is short compared to alot of cars, it still takes alot more to turn it than my vette. i found a company selling boxes with a 12:1 but im trying to figure out how it would compare or if its too short. ideally i would like it to be the same as whats in my vette.

I had an 86 Firebird many years ago and Im remember upgrading the suspension to the WS6 and getting the faster steering ratio box.Wasnt they like 14:1?
I cant recall too much today about it but know what you mean.My Firebird with the 16x8 formula rims with 250/50 tires never handled as repsonsive as my vette did.Close but not quite!

Forgot to add, when I installed the super stiff WS6 front springs, part number was 14029399 then,It sat too high for my taste. So I cut the top coil off the spring and it sat low and had a nice rake to it.The spring was abit noisier on cold days over bumps but I didnt care then!

Count the turns of your steering wheel, from lock to lock. Two turns is the faster rack, two and a third is the slower.
