Default 1990 code 16

Infl res light is on and throwing code 16. Need help in figuring out whether this code is for the right or left side air bag sensor. Manual indicates code 16 is for front no. 1 sensor. No. 1 is right or left? Tech tip on this subject is confusing as well. Thanks

16 is a left discriminating sensor fault. Sensor is located under the battery and should take no more than an hour to replace. Use new bolts. GM part number is 10094613 -- $86.19 from Superior Chevrolet (Merriam KS). Call 800.728.8267 talk to Chris May. His service is outstanding. If part is in stock (normally is) he'll ship same day.

You can try to take it off and check for corrosion between sensor and frame. I had the same problem and didn't need to replace the sensor. Only cleaned everything and put it back together. The tricky part is reseting infl rest light but there is a good tip in tech tips section on how to do this.

Figured out last night that it was the left side sensor. Followed the procedures in the tech tips and eliminated the code but it keeps coming back. Looks like I'll have to purchase a new sensor. Thanks for the part number and price. I guess the electrical connection is under the panel on the driver's side. Thanks again

The connection is just forward of the door jam -- peel back the carpet. It will be easier to get at if you remove the threshold -- five minutes extra that will save you 15 minutes of aggravation later.
