Default Removing Frisbee?

I'm about to remove the frisbee from my 91' L98...is there anything special I need to know about the process? Does the belt have to come off or does it need to be loosened first?

No magic here really. But you will have to take the belt off (or at least take it off the water pump pulley).

If you've never taken the belt off, then here's what you go:

Remove the front air horn going to the throttlebody. Using either a belt tensioner tool or a 1/2" breaker bar, insert the square tool end into the square hole on the belt tensioner pulley (passenger side, just below the air conditioning compressor). Then, push the tool's handle towards the driver's side. This will release the tension on the belt. Slip the belt off of the airconditioning compressor and SLOWLY bring the tool back towards the passenger side (it will be under tension from the spring inside the belt tensioner, so be careful). Reinstallation is the reverse.

Other than that, it's pretty much a straight foward job.

Good luck with it.

I'd loosen the bolts on the water pump damper before taking off the belt. This way the belt helps you to keep the water pump from turning while you are loosening the bolts

If the WP pulley bolts resist turning use a pry bar or large flat blade across the front of the pulley face between two bolt heads for leverage to hold the pulley while you crank on the socket handle.

Check that the bolts do not hit the water pump neck with the frisbee removed, you may need lock washers under the bolt heads for spacers.

I have a air wrench so I don't think the pullet bolts will be a problem...just out of curiosity is there a down side to removing the frisbee?

The frisbee was originally installed to help dampen the effect of the A/C compressor turning on and off. In reality, it doesn't.

So no, there is no downside.

P.S. Wait until you get it off - you'll be amazed at it's weight! I'm glad I pulled mine.

Hey, I'm gonna jump in here with a quick question of my own!

I don't have an impact wrench. I remember that when I tried to remove a pulley from my Mustang, the damn thing always spun around. Will it be the same case with my 1988 'vette? I'm guessing this is why it was recommended to remove the belt. I don't want it spinning while I'm trying to remove it tomorrow @_@
