Dash Lights flickering...need new alternator?
Hi,
My 42K miles LT4 runs like a champ but noticed that dash lights are flickering as i press gas pedal. Also dash lights dim when i turn head lights on.
My first guess would be the alternator going bad.
Any suggestions?
If alternator is the culprit should i go for a stock Delco replacement?
How much for a stock alternator?
Thanx

Dash lights dim with the headlights turned on if the cockpit is dark, this is normal. Dash lights flickering when accelerating is not normal and is most likely due to an intermittent connection to the dash. Alternators do sometimes have a voltage regulator that oscillates but when they do, the flickering is constant.

Could be a connection however most of the time it is the alternator charging system going bad. When you turn on headlights there is a normal voltage drop which kicks the alternator in to put out more amps and volts. As the charging system ages parts wear and they dont perform like they used to. Get the charging system checked and if it passes look toward connections. Could be any number of things like corroded cables or loose cables or the alternator voltage regulator going out or even a weak cell in the battery.
