Need your thoughts, thinking on going with the 3.73's rather than the 4.10's. I have a 91 six speed. Scheduled to go in the 16th of this month. Vette is an everyday driver with one weekend a month catching some 1/4 mile track action.
3.45's if the car is stock or even mildly modded. no lower.
my L83 crossfire is a totally different car and would benefit more from those gears than a L98 car. i had 3.54's and it improved all around at the track and might have wanted 3.73's!the L98 is just a motor that doesn't need to rev in stock or mild modded form to go fast.
i have 3.07's in my 4+3, i have been told by MANY guys with L-98 knowledge that, that is the gear to have....with a ZF6 i wouldnt go any higher then a 3.45.
4.10 are going to make it slower, i would think 3.73's would make it slower as well if u plan on dragging it. from what i have seen and heard with this the 4.10's and 3.73's u will have to shift into 5th if you 1/4 mile it...

The stock L83 doesn't wind out or make any more power at higher rpms than the L98. If anything the L98 has the edge, stock. As a daily driver, the 6 speed has stiff enough overdrives to handle the lower gears, but probably not for those monthly 1/4 bashes. Do some math. Check your rpms at your 1/4 mile mph with the different rear end ratios, and compare them with your present shift point rpms. You want to finish the 1/4 in 4th gear.

Why 3.07's with the 4+3? Why 3.45's with the 6 speed? Why 3.73's for dragging? What ET will it turn with each set of gears? How much horsepower will it make? Will it beat my brother-in- laws Grand Sport?
Why 3.07's with the 4+3? a 2.59 isnt enough gear, and a 3.73,4.10 isnt either Why 3.45's with the 6 speed? Why 3.73's for dragging? huh! u make no sense, 3.73's will make u switch into 5th. What ET will it turn with each set of gears? you tell me..... How much horsepower will it make? i have no idea, you tell me..... Will it beat my brother-in- laws Grand Sport? u tell me, my brother in-law doesnt have a grandsport.
RACE ON!!!
sorry man, your question dont make sense....but i do know a fact that the 84 model year are the slowest of the C4's.
how am i supposed to know how much horsepower it will make? and how am i supposed to know if its faster then somebody's brother in-laws grandsport.

Alright. Forget those two. What about the ETs? Why different ratios with different manual transmissions? Somehow when you transfered my words, as a quote, it got jumbled up. There are "things" I didn't write, inserted and jumbled into into my quote, that I didn't type.

I think you'll be happy rowing through that 6 speed with either set while daily driving, but the 3.73's would be better for the strip (and even they might be a little too steep). There is a formula (I sure as h3ll don't know it) where you can plug in your RPM, tire diameter, gear ratio, etc. and come up with a MPH for any given combo. The MPH can help you target what 1/4 times you might expect from the different gear ratios.
IMHO, if you aren't looking for the quickest ET's possible, the 4.10's will be a lot of fun.
I was thinking about getting 3.73s also my l98, which is completely redone (heads, cam, intake, exhaust). what are you looking for to know that it is a good gear ratio to go with? Are you looking for where in your rpms you have the most power? Can that be done with a torque converter also? Thanks for any info!
