depends on the final hp/torque output in your cruising RPM range. I went from a mild duration .400's lift cam to a hot street/strip higher duration cam @ over .560" lift and got better mpg due to the hp/torque increas in my cruising RPM range... it can also get alot worse if you cruise at 2200rpm and your cam starts "kickin" at 3200, but you wouldn't have a cam like that in your setup.
I installed an LT4 Hot Cam into a bone stock LT4 and lost 2 mpg. It went from 18.5 mpg average (mostly around town driving) to 16.7 mpg average. I did not really change my driving style with the new cam so I have to attribute it to the cam. The change in mileage did surprise me a bit. The ECM was reprogrammed for the Hot Cam and I installed Corsa exhausts. Other than that no changes.

as well... forgot to mention the driving around town part. lol I went from 19-21 cruising to 22-25 with the new cam and from 12-16 town driving to 9-12 with the new cam.
so i guess it does affect mileage a little bit. the 84 is my daily driver so with gas prices so high, i dont know if i want to add a cam. do you think its worth having the power increase. i do like to get on it every once in a while but i try not to make a habbit out of it.
Well, i hate to tell you but its hard to just add a cam... i'm sure everyone who has gone that far, would agree with me ... you start to think heads, rockers, port/polishing, exhaust (probably already have some if you got a cam), chip, intake, free mods are a given, rotating assembly, possible short block, and the list goes on and on and on and on and on....
Don't know what the change in your mpg would be. You could assume it would drop though. You would have to give me more details on your cam for me to give an accurate est. of the increase. I put a mid .400's lift cam with a computer friendly duration in my 84 when it was stock. I would have guessed 10-15rwhp (made power all the way to 5300 over the stock 4200 ).
i havent even decided on a cam yet, im looking for suggestions
I would suggest going over to http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/. There is ALOT of info for the crossfire engine. I spent alot of time there when i had the X-fire. For suggestions, CFI-EFI knows his Sh*t with the crossfire. Not to many people have a crossfire that will make power up to 6k Rpm. to me that makes him an expert.
