Default Successful DFI install

I finished up my refreshment project which included more compression, a solid roller and the addition of Accel DFI. I had some initial troubles with connection, my laptop does not have a serial port that matches thier cable, I had to buy a USB conversion and figure out which port it was plugged in. I have to tell calmap where to look everytime to connect to the ecm. This prevented me from being able to run the calibration wizard so I was a little worried. I followed the book into the various config screens, entered my values and it developed a VE table. And unbelievably, the thing cranked right over and started.

I am most surprised because I went with the dual sync distributor and was not sure that I set it up right. Timing observed with a light is within a couple degrees of that on the calmap screen.

I have not driven it, however, up on the stands it idles smooth and I can crack the throttle w/out hesitation. Of course driving it under a load may change all that, but I'm very happy so far. I haven't been able to monitor calmap very long because my alternator wasn't charging. I took it apart to refinish it and just realized today that I left the brush retainment pin in, the brushes weren't touching anything. I also had a loose battery cable.

All is good now and I hope to drive it Thursday. Need to fix a leak at the thermostat housing. I should have put RTV there to begin with, the MR and it's neck don't seal very well, even when I used a quality gasket.

I'm sure the novelty has worn off for many, but there is something pretty cool about having the laptop connected to the car and having all that control at your fingertips. I have Just enough knowledge here kill something so I think I will take it slow....
