I just got off the phone with the tech at Hooker headers who has just unformed me that their short tube headers #2061 HKR will not fit a 96 LT4 engine. they'll fit all LT1 engines 92-95 but won't fit a 96 LT4.
dose anybody know why these headers won't fit a LT4 engine? can they made to fit a LT4 engine? from a exhaust stand point what's the difference between a 92-95 LT1 engine vs. a 96 LT4 engine?
thanks boonie
First I've heard of it. Being said though shortie headers aren't worth a whole lot performance wise. They're better for decoration, you need long tubes if you want them for a performance benefit, but that brings up a whole different set of problems with emissions.

OK I'll take a guess, do the shorties have EGR holes and the LT4 does not have an EGR system? If that is the case and your set on shorts a couple of pipe plugs will solve your problem.
I have Custom Polished Hooker Super Comp's (Short Tube) on my Lt4. Maybe there is a certain model of Hooker's that you have to use on the Lt4 (I don't personally accept anything over 5"10, 120lbs ) ....I don't know... But I do know that I have them. I can post pics if you want to see em.

The Hookers don't work because of the cat pipes. They will fit, but you'll have to modify the cat pipes. That being said, JBA's fit with no modifications.
Hey Jim, fancy meeting you here! Reading this thread I was wondering why you went with the shorties as opposed to the long tubes. Everyone claims no performance benefit etc etc....what ya think?

Performance gain...little if any, IMO. However, underhood temps are reduced and unlike the OEM manifolds, the header pipes cool down quicker which makes it more friendly when wrenching under the hood after the engine has been run.
Why shorties? When I got them, we had visual inspections in addition to the tail pipe sniffer. Now that the car is 10 years old and with OBD II they just hook it up to the computer, I could get by with LTs. Maybe one of these days I'll switch.
