Hello all, this is my first time posting. I have a 1995 LT1 Automatic (nerve damage in legs) Starting to look around for Long Tube Headers and wanted to know what you thought of Melrose Headers?
Thanks

Never heard of them either. Most of the people here use Hooker, TPIS, or Exotic Muscle. Give Merle a call at EM for a price. 480-967-4222. Oh, and welcome to the Forum!

No need to justify your reason for having an automatic! You're welcome here no matter what year car you have, what transmission it's got, or how many HP/Tq.
What kind of catback system do you have? I only ask because the addition of an X-pipe to certain systems might *drastically* change the sound (towards the louder end of the spectrum), and you just may not want that. I've got EM long tubes, Random Tech cats, and a Corsa catback. It sounds downright mean at WOT, but is very quiet at cruise speeds on the freeway.
It's an ok price.. If you had the time to piece together a system yourself and have it installed by a muffler shop you might save a few hundred. You could get the ceramic coated headers from Summit, add a pair of bullet cats from Pypes (which are $70 each) and a Magnaflow x-pipe (more of a crossover chamber) off of ebay for about $80. I am not sure how much those Hooker headers are, but $500 or less sounds about right. There are also other offerings from Exotic Muscle and TPiS which are a bit more expensive but are LT1 specific where the Hookers are for L98 (but still work).
My exhaust consists of Exotic Muscle headers going through a pair of 3" Pypes bullet cats into a Magnaflow crossover chamber into stock mufflers. I used 3" pipe throughout and welded it all up in my garage.
Melrose is a pretty reputable shop. I've bought some brake mods from them and they're very well known for their targa top rebuild service. I wasn't aware that they made their own headers, though. They might just resell one of the other brands mentioned above. I'd call them back and specifically ask what brand they are or if they indeed make them themselves. Also, what kind of material, steel vs stainless.
