Hi when I got this car it was missing a couple of the underhood lamp screws and the rubber inserts that they thread into.I can find the screws online but I can't find the inserts. These lights also do not want to burn.I know I need to get the Helms manual but does anyone have the under hood Wiring diagram that they could email me or post on here.I really enjoy this forum and everyone allways seems to give it there best shot to help someone out.
Thanks.
Also, if your lights aren't working, check to see if they're unplugged. The harnesses unplug down in the front fender wells on each side. Some folks unplug their underhood lights if they plan to leave the hood open for an extended time and don't want to risk running the battery down.
Each harness should have 12 volts constant to the lamp assembly. Put a voltmeter on the bulb terminal and to ground and see if you have 12 volts at the bulb.
When you tip the hood up, the mercury switches (clipped along with the bulbs) complete the circuit and cause the lamps to light. The merc switches are about 1/2" big....check to see if they are missing. They are operated by gravity.....hood up, circuit closed....hood down, circuit open.
Thanks for all the help. The mercury switches are missing. The only thing is if I get the new lights they still will not come with the rubber inserts in the hood that the screws thread into.Corvette Salvage said they did not have any of the inserts at the moment.
Thanks.
John.
Hmmmmm......OK, post over in C4 Parts For Sale / Wanted section. There is probably a member who has some laying around that they will send you. There is usually at least 1 C4 that is being parted out over there.
Or is is possible to adapt some other type of fastener? I haven't had my lights out in about 6-7 years since I bought my new set from Dino....don't remember what they inside looked like.
