Default Digital Cluster Gremlins

I have a 90 coupe the digital cluster seems to have a problem. The car has sat for a couple of days and the cluster does not come on. The guages work fine but the rest does not come on. The last time it did this is when a new battery was put in the cluster did not come on and with playing with fuses the cluster came on. This has also happened where the cluster was on when switched of then on restart it does not come on and then I turn it off and restart it comes back on. Now no matter how many times I restart it does not come back on. I have not played with the fuses yet.

Sounds like a circuit problem, but first I would unplug and use some electrical contact cleaner spray on the connectors. Does your back lighting also go out? If not and only the LCD displays aren't working, you could have the switching power supply not reliably working and it would need to be repaired or replaced at a service center.

When I got home from work I took out the fuse to the cluster and put in a new one and the LED readout came back to life. I guess that it might need that contact spray in the fuse holder.
