Default Dana 36 ?

Do you have to pull the cover to know what gear you have?I was talking to CFI EFI and pulled a green driven gear out of my 86 tranny. Now I thought I had 2:59 gears.I'm thinking tranny rebuild or I poss have 3.07's?And ideas. This all started when my speedo stopped. Thanks

check the side of the case. If you have a manual, it would be a D44, if it's an auto, it would be 2.59 or 3.07.

Or you could rotate the wheel and count the revolutions of the drive shaft.

Rotate BOTH rear wheels, simultaneously. If you count the drive line rotations before both wheels have made precisely one rotation, the differential will throw off the results. Of course, if the posi is in good shape, you will have trouble NOT rotating them together. The ratio that carrier was built with will be stamped in it, but counting the revolutions will tell you what it IS, regardless of whether is has ever been changed or not.

RACE ON!!!

The reason I said rotate the wheel is I assumed the other would rotate also, knowing that you have a working posi. But thanks for expanding on my advice.
