Default 17" 1990 Wheels For My '85

I picked up a set of 17" 1990 wheels for my '85. I read a post on using adaptors to make the wheels fit properly in the wheelwells. I'm still not too comfortable with the adaptors. Will switching to the '88 and up rotors solve the wheel depth problem? Any input would be appreciated.

There was a suspension changeover in 88, but you will need more than the rotors to make it work properly. I don't know what else you'll need, but at the very least the spindles. There are many people using the adapters w/o any issues. For street use they are safe.

No, switching rotors wont fix it. Unless you feel like rebuilding your front suspension from the ground up, you'll have to deal with it.

In the rear, its just a few parts that changed, so you could switch that one.

There are a number of folks that offer aftermarket wheels for these cars with the correct offset. AFS comes to mind. While they are not without some controversy, I picked up a set of 17" ZR-1 wheels for my 1985 for $500. Heck the wheel adapters are half that. While they did take a bit more weight to balance than I would have preferred, I feel they were an excellent value.

I believe the factory wheels are for the most part higher quality wheels than many of the aftermarket wheels. But like you I was not keen on the idea of running adapters... although many people do, with no problems at all.

Good luck... GUSTO

I'm using 90 wheels on my 86 without adapters and without issues. Sure they are tucked in a bit, but if you didn't know, you wouldn't see it.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess adapters are the most cost effective way to go. Still not too keen on them....

Does anyone know what parts are differant from the early to late C4's that change the wheel offset? Hubs? are the half shafts differant length early to late? What parts are differant?

At rear I believe only the spindle and the splined shaft through it are different.
The diff, halfshafts , hubs are the same 84-96 so the only place where the distance could be increased is in the spindle assembly
