Default Brake Master Cylinder Question?

Are there any surprises I should be ready for? The Helms manual is pretty clear but I just want to make sure. My plan is to empty the resevoir with a turkey baster. Detach all brake lines at the master cylinder and plug them. Plug the openings on the master cylinder as well. Remove the master cylinder from the brake booster. Install new master cylinder and connect all brake lines. Fill resevoir 3/4 with fluid and begin the bleeding process. Add fluid as needed during bleeding and then top off resevoir after bleeding is complete. Does this pretty much cover it? Thanks for any input.

Yes, in a word. You pretty much covered the process. Might be a good time for speed bleeders and a real good synthetic brake fluid. Do a complete fluid flush and not just a bleed.

you might want to bench bleed your new master cylinder before you install to get all the air out of the cyl before you push it into your brake lines.

You can get a MC bench bleed kit in the HELP! section at most auto parts stores. My new MC did not come with a bench bleed kit. Yes, you will need metric fittings.

Other than that, the MC swap is real easy. Oh... and make sure you have a decent set of metric flare wrenches.

One more thing, if you have ABS on your Vette, don't use synthetic fluid. Use dot4 or castrol SRS

Indeed bench bleed the MC before installing it.

If you do not have the special tool (shown in the manual) for installing the resevoirs onto the new MC you are indeed in for some fun.
