how much power can the stock block handle safely with all the best forged internales on a turbo motor without filling block?? was hoping to see 850 to 1000 rwhp !!! at what power level should one switch to a aftermarket conventional small block?? any advise would be appreciated thanks ray
the motor is a 383 and is bored 4.035 it has callies crank, oliver 5.85 rods ,je custom pistons, hell fire rings, billet main caps, all bearings and pistons are coated, all arp fasteners. trying to find out if the motor will live safely around 1000 rwhp, and at what power level it is no longer safe!!!

I've built several LT's making close to 1k hp at the crank (blown apps). Truthfully it's RPM and TQ that kill blocks and cranks. A good LT block that doesn't go over .040" (minimum .250" thickness on the thrust side) with a short fill, cryo-treatment, and top-notch machine work will support up to 1200...I've seen it: there are several LT f-bodies making well in excess of 1k with the above mods. Luck is on your side with a turbocharger as well; they are not nearly as abusive on components as the other forms of forced induction. You have to spin a centrifugal too high and nitrous is an immediate BMEP spike on the cylinders as well as slamming the crank. Turbos generally build cylinder pressure in such a way as to not cause BMEP spikes like N2O and unlike centrifugal superchargers capable of supporting the same amount of power they do not require the high rpm if properly sized for the application.
However if all out power is your ultimate goal I'd can the LT based motor and built a traditional Gen 1 SBC with an aftermarket block.
