Dart Heads
No, this is where most guys go wrong, I've done it too. Granted, the newer cylinder low-midlift #'s have gotten better over the years, but bigger isn't always better. Stock runer size is around 160ish, I believe. Look at the above poster's combo. Mild cam, small 180 head, runs 12.6 @108. That's a strong street motor! Those heads will help promote torque wich is what pushes you back in the seat. For a street motor, be a little conservative and build for torque, you'll be glad you did. In fact, many of the newer aftermarket heads (AFR,Dart 180) Can keep up with some 195 heads up to about .550 lift on the flowbench. I don't see where running a bigger cam thatn that is necessary on the street. Remember too, your intake and exhaust system has to be able to move the air, too. Its all in the combination. I've overcammed, overcarbed and "too much cylinder headed" too many cars overthe years before some old timer hot rodders pounded the concept of torque through my head. Used to make fun of the small cams and heads they ran til I took a ride in one, then I was sold on it. Just trying to help.
Thanks. Joe.
