Noise when turning
My wife has a 1989 vert. When you turn hard left from a stop there is a groaning noise. Doesn't do it to the right.

My '89 coupe make a whining sound coming from the power steering. I believe it is the belt. I have not replaced it yet. My problem occurs when backing the car into the garage at very slow speeds.

Could also be the differential. This is not uncommon and can be corrected, in most cases, by changing the rear end lubricant. Use the recommended GM lube and GM limited slip additive and you won't go wrong.
Is the noise coming from the front or the rear??
