Default O-ringing heads....

The copper head gaskets I ordered last July 19th finally arrived.... Had planned on O-ringing heads but a highly trusted friend suggested that without a reciever groove, O-ringing adds very little value. Do you guys have any differing oppinions on this subject? The engine combination in my profile is still close to what I'll be running (add alky injection, less intercooler, plus 12-rib drive and an F1R)...I am looking to break the 1k hp mark, if lucky. Any thoughts appreciated....

Not true! The o-ringed groove in the heads is helpful if you are going to make bezerk horsepower, but putting an o-ring in only the block is commonly done, and yes, it does work nicely. If I were trying to make more than 1600 hp with my BBC I would have also put a groove in the heads.

Default O-Ring

I personally have both O-ring and receiver grooves combined which is better than just an o-ring by itself. The key is to have a place to bond the two together and the clamping force combined with the O-ring will benefit from a place to push the copper gasket. With the Wire o-ring it pushes the copper into the groove which creates a seal which helps on high cylinder pressure engines.

With the horsepower level you are taking about I would save your money and just buy Cometics gaskets.
