Default Oil pressure

Can anyone tell me what the oil pressure should read in my '84? Maybe a range, say 55 to 60???

You will probably get a mixed review on oil pressure in here.. My 84 xfire with a fresh rebuild shows about 60-70psi at speed, and around 40-50 at idle... Some say my pressure is to high. I am not sure. Ever since I've owned the car (8 years) it has always reflected a PSI over 60. I now have a fresh engine, new sensors, and new digi dash, and im still getting approx. the same readings. I would say if your over 15-20psi at idle, your fine.

I have read - rule of thumb, 10psi for every 1k rpms.. Not sure how true this is though...

After my engine is fully warmed up, I get 20-25 psi at idle (~700 rpm) and around 55psi at 2000 rpm (about 70 mph). That's for an '87 w/ 100K miles.

The 10psi per 1000rpm is a good base line, but it is a bit low.

basically, if it's below that, your hosed.

The numbers that BamaVette quoted are real good... and about where it should be.

Spec is 50-60psi warm, with your foot on the gas...and about half of that idling.

In my opinion, more is better, so dont be alarmed if its higher. I wouldnt be worried until the idle pressure drops to single digits or the cruise pressure drops into the 40s.

Hot, idle oil pressure is also viscosity dependent for example 5-30 will register lower than 15-50 or 20-60.
