Default Hooker Long Tube Headers

I have a Lowered 86 Coupe 4+3speed Vette. I would like to know if someone could give me some measurements on hooker long tube headers (I think 2149 - no emissions) I need to know how tall the headers are, what is the measurement from the flange to the collector (what I am looking for is to find out if these headers will fit on my car and clear the ground) if you hold the header with the flange parrallel to the ground how far down is the collector. Also what should I do from the headers back H or X pipe and do you have any part numbers for something that will fit around a 4+3 I want true dual exhuast ???

I have no Cat and dont want or need one where I live.

Pics or installation suggestions for this install would be appreciated. Anything I should keep in mind when doing this project ???

Thanks

The 2149s have all emissions hookups. They're on my '87 w/4+3 and they are not the lowest portion of my car.

I think the 2151's are the hookers without emissions.

On my vette(it's not lowered) the bottom of the collector flanges are exactly 4" off the ground

Here is the thread where I installed mine:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...rs&forum_id=48

You will lose the altenator brace... the bolt on the passenger side by the firewall is a PITA. Install driver's side from above, passenger side from below.

Default Hooker Long Tube Headers

Ya I guess 2151 -1 Ceramic Coated Hooker Headers are what I am looking for and from the responses I have got I guess fit and clearance is not going to be an issue.

About the 02 sensor is it neccessary for me to have this put back into the Headers I buy ??? What will happen if I drop the 02 sensor all together and not have it at all ???

Also does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should buy them and what is a decent price to pay for these Headers ???

Thanks

If you don't mind your car running like crap compared to usual, go ahead and toss it!

Yes, put it back in. Even better if you can, get a bung welded into the collector and install a heated O2 sensor instead.

Here's a pic of my 2149's clearance on my 1990. As you can see the oil pan is about as low. I dont have a 4+3, just a 700r4 with a Y pipe. As others have said, the 2149's have the emissions and the 2151's are identicle without emissions. I too bought mine at Summit for $549

Oh yeah, about the only way to run good without an O2 sensor would be to have a chip burned with it deleted. I would suggest keeping it as these cars depend alot on it's reading.

A set of slip-fit headers, which most other C4 headers are, will gain you a bit more clearance if you feel you need it. This eliminates the collector flange of course, which gives you additional clearance.

The Hooker 2151/2149 will fit very well as others have stated. You will lose the stock alternator bracket, but its pretty easy to fab one up. I was able to make one in my garage in about a half hour with crap I had laying around.

Default Hooker Long Tube Headers

Another question I have about the Headers is what size should I get, should I go with 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 ???

Since the stock Y pipe will not work what are my options I really want to run true dual exhaust ??? If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to make them and if you have any part numbers for things I may need to run my exhaust set up that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks
Rut Ro.

Anyway, I have 1.75" TPiS. I've had these headers before and while they may not make as much tq, I haven't seen true rwtq or hp numbers comparisons so I don't totally concede, I have these because I've installed them on a few different cars. I've had no install issues and I can change plugs very easy.
I be interested in seeing a true dyno or track mph comparison between the 2 sizes. Also I'd like to hear a few people with different headers than these talk about the install and plug changes. Are both things easy?

What is Rut Ro ???????

As far as the headers go wouldn't 1 3/4 be to big for a stock motor especially because I plan on running true dual exhaust with no cats or mufflers ???

I plan on doing some engine mods in the future and was wondering if 1 5/8 headers would still be ok if i was pushing like 400 Horse ???

Let me know what you all think

Rut Ro is the age old cartoon dog like Astro from The Jetsons or Scooby Doo's way of saying "Uh Ohhh!"

The reason for the "Rut Ro" is that this topic has been hashed out in here to death and gotten pretty heated at times in the past. Alot of guys are pretty firm in their beliefs on the subject.

My hookers are 1 3/4 and the car runs great whether spraying a 125 shot of nitrous at the track or just cruising the streets. I dont see how a header could be more perfect.

Because alot of guys feel the same way about their 1 5/8's, I have come to believe there's just not that much of a difference either way regardless of all the science and discussion on scavenging ect. Too many people are running both and are happy. JMHO.

Do a thread search on the topic and see what you can dig up.

if you're going to be about 400chp in the future, then its a toss-up. that being said, i'm about there now and have hooker 1 3/4" super comps. if i did it again, i'd go 1 5/8" though.
