Ha ha, Jim,

That's okay. Two George's at a small track can get confusing. Who can remember last names too? I was the guy in the tower handing the mike over to you! BTW, you are right about the purple '32 Bantam altered roaster. That was me. Thanx for the kind words. That car was a riot to drive (when it went straight...even when it didn't! Yes, the Top Comp guys are terrific. And I am building a '23T blown alcohol altered roadster for Top Comp this coming season.

Our track club is still buzzing about the great compliment we received from your guy who went 200 for the first time ever, including at bigger well known tracks.

Oh, and George and Dixie V had their RED out again for our last bracket race a couple weeks ago and it ran mid-7's without a whimper. I wonder what that thing will do if he ever goes flat out!

The tpi motor from sc. dky. is great but is not smog legal. It has a custom roller cam grind that is very similar to the gm performance parts hot cam and will give you a nice lopey idle that will scare the smog techs away the without even lifting the hood.
If it is similar to the LT4 hot cam, then it should have no problem passing smog in CA. Tons of people running in CA with hot cams.

Just a thought on the zz4, if you dont turn your own wrenchs you can buy it from your dealer and have them install it as well, this gives you the GM warranty both ways (engine and installation sevice)...joe

I have been checking into a replacement motor also. This is a reply I received from pase performance.
You are correct, a stock L98 is no longer available from GM.

The closest engine I have available would be the ZZ4 ;355 HP performance crate engine- https://www.paceparts.com/index.asp?...D&ProdID=22962

This engine is largely based on the 87-91 L98 Corvette engine.

It has a little bit more compression- 10:1 vs 9.2:1 and it has more camshaft in it.

Your TPI intake and corvette oil pan and accessories will bolt right on. You can put your stock camshaft in it, and run your stock computer chip, or you can leave the performance cam in it, and have a custom chip made by www.fastchip.com

We also have a Vortec TPI base manifold available- https://www.paceparts.com/index.asp?...D&ProdID=73239
which would allow you to install most any of the vortec headed engines along with the correct custom computer chip. END

The cam used in the ZZ4 is similar to the old cams used in the 327 corvette motors. I am now checking into the motor options using the vortec intake and runner listed.
