Today after eating lunch with some friends I got back into my car and started it up. Drove to the exit in the parking lot and proceeded to get onto the feeder. As soon as I pulled out I gave it a little gas and the car backfired and the died. I coasted into the parking lot again and tried to start it up and nothin. The car acts like it wants to start but doesnt.I have good fuel pressure and am getting spark but no start? Almost seems like its flooded. I also am just recently getting the sys light or something flashing on the dash when I try and start it. I checked all the fuses and they are all ok. Could it be the key or the security system has gone bad. I have had this being a problem some times with the car not startin. Like I said It cranks normally but no start. I need help!
If it cranks then it isn't VATS! If you have spark, then check with a timing light for spark at the right time. If you hold the throttle all the way to the floor and crank, you will turn off the injectors and this will allow the engine to clear itself of a rich condition and it might start. Measure fuel pressure and shut the ignition off and watch to see how long fuel pressure holds up. If it drops rapidly, then you may have leaky fuel injector/s and this will flood the engine and it won't start nor run. Next, get a noid light (from a car parts store), or use a low power 12v lamp like a 194 side light and unplug an injector and put the lamp across the injector plug. When cranking, the light should pulse indicating that the injectors are being exercised by the CCM. Disconnect the air hose from the air filter to ensure that you are getting air into the engine. A clogged air filter will cause your symptoms. Let us know what you find!
You also mentioned that you were getting a sys flash on the DIC. The ECM has probably thrown a code so you need to check that out. It should point you in the right direction.
Hope it's nothing too bad, but the last time what you described happened to me, my pickup threw the timing chain. Ripped several of the teeth right off the cam gear...
you've thrown a code and that's where u need to start-pretty simple to read-no special tools just a paper clip, I doubt if it's a timing chain. First get the battery fully charged-24hours.
Well the car is back up and runnin, the opti spark exploded, lol. Not to bad though it was the stock opti from factory and lasted 92000 miles. Half those miles were abuse.
