Default another cam question

hey guys,
I am going to put a new opti and electric water pump in shortly. I was told while im so close to the cam it should be easy to replace it. Please keep in mind i am not a expierienced mechanic this is the biggest job i have ever attempted but i have some knowledgeble help. I was wondering if anybody here has expierence with a mild cam that shouldnt wear out the stock motor but will be worth buying while im down there. I have a 94 lt1 auto,ram air, hypertech programer.

Thanks for any advice.

Whoa, replacing the WP and opti is very easy compared to swapping the cam, and while you will be in the general area there is a LOT more work involved swapping the cam out...beyond what needs to be done for the opti you'll also need to;

-Remove Intake
-Remove starter
-Remove oil pan (best done with a lift...kinda sucks without one)
-remove crank balancer and hub
-remove front cover
-Remove radiator and AC condensor, OR remove the tranny and tip to tip the engine back
-possibly remove the exhaust, depends on if the cats are in the way of some of the oil pan bolts
-Replace springs in heads
-possibly new rockers/lifters/pushrods/guideplates

Those are just most of the major things you'll need to do, like I said, this is a BIG step up from chaning the WP and Opti.

As for a cam, a very popular choice is the LT4 hotcam. It's a nice upgrade but still a relatively mild cam that gives a good boost of power. You can also look into the GM846 cam and Comp Cams CC305 as well.
