well my 1986 vette's last owner or owners must have never changed the power steering fuild. when i went to do it it was dark gray, and i was like crap not good! drained it put new fuild in, then started to hear moans, so after reading other threads i found one on sea-foam tran fix, its also for power steering racks. so i drained all the old stuff out, took the res bottle right out of the vette and cleaned it by hand, alot of black stuff in there?? ans said crap again! got it all out and back in vette, put the sea-foam in ran it for 15 miuntes, drained it, more sea-foam just to rinse out, added power steer fuild ran it some and drained again, refilled with Val sen P/S and some Lucas power steer fix. and quiet as a baby now!!! so i'll see how much longer i get out of this power rack??
I put the Lucas in my P/S pump. It stayed quiet for about 2 months then made noise again, but almost two years later, I've not had a problem with it.
Be sure you properly bleed the system. The manual calls for 20 turns lock to lock with the tires in the air.(40 if you have a P/S cooler). You should have someone checking the resevoir while you are doing this to make sure the level doesn't go down.
20 turns lock to lock to bleed the air out, o.k. good to know !!
i figured after seeing that gray fuild and then the black stuff in side the res. tank the power steering systems days are numbered, so this my prolong it just s little??
