i have just bought a used stereo from Ebay but how do i test it before installing it in the car. It is the base stereo but mine had the top bose originally so isn't just plug in (fuse blows).
Just connect it direct (using a fuse of course) to the battery. Turn it on. Don't turn the volume up or you could blow the amp w/ no load but the radio should turn on and not blow the fuse. You can even verify the CD is working at least from a read point of view.
The unit must be bad. Send it back. No way it should be blowing a 10 amp fuse. Assuming you are hooking it up right in terms of the correct wire for + and - 12 volts.
By the way, do you have a multi-meter. Check for a short between the + and - leads w/ the switch on and not hooked to power. This will tell you for sure. Sounds like something in the power supply has gone out. Probably a cheap fix if you know what your looking for (voltage regulator/diode/filter capacitor).
