Default I need something simple to pull codes on my 89'

Since my mechanic is on my **** list I need a way to pull my own codes. I have looked at the devices in the Central Corvette catalog and the one that gives you a read out instead of blinking lights looks like what I am looking for. anyone got other suggestions?

A paperclip between pins A+B on the aldl will work.

Like he said...A paperclip, straightened out and then bent in a U, stuck in pins A & B of the ALDL will do just as much as any "code reader" and costs about a penny.
Put the paper clip in the ALDL pins. Turn the key on but don't start the car. Watch the check engine light...it will flash code 12...like this: Flash.....flash..flash. It will do that 3 times then flash any stored codes 3 times each and then go back to code 12. Write down the codes it flashes out, turn key off, remove paperclip and put in glove box.

Spencer: If you have an Auto Zone near you, go in and ask for a "code key" as they are free! Take this key and insert it into the two holes in the UPPER RIGHT SIDE of the ALDL connector located under the dash just to the right of the sleering column. This key is much easier to use than the paper clip! Follow Morley's directions.

As for the Auto Xray, I have heard good comments on this from the CF. I have not personally used one. I would recommend you post this question in the "Tech" sections as more people read this as compared to the "Scan & Tune".

I have Diacom on my laptop and it runs on DOS. This has a cable (from the PC) and plugs into the ALDL. You can see the ECM data.
