Default Rear Hub Torque

OK I'm worried. I just installed near rear hubs, following the shop manual, and it calls out a torque of 164 lb/ft for the spindle nut. I've read other posts where people are recommending a torque of 180-200 lb/ft. What should I use It's a 96 BTW

I don't own a torque wrench, so I take a pipe and place it over the socket wrench and stand on the pipe until it stops moving.

I weigh 180 lbs. so I guess you can say my spindle nuts are torqued at 180 lb/ft. Been driving the car with 2 new hubs for over 2 years now. I wouldn't worry about it to much.

Go with the shop manual.

IIRC, the manual called for 200 ft lbs for standard transmissions, 164 for automatic. I torqued mine to about 180 and split the difference. That was 5 years ago, no problems yet.

I'm at 200 on the side i replaced. The left side has a click now so i will lube the splines with anti-seize and crank it to 200 also. 165 just seems too loose
