Looking for dyno #'s without cats
L98 exhaust sucks. The best fix, dual bullet cats, x-pipe and duals out back. It will sound awesome and sniff as clean as a whistle. If you can get an entire LT1 stock system, that would rock, too. Expect a 20~30hp gain. Add 20 more if you add LTs.
But this is not legal. By federal standards you cannot relocate the converter.
On a lighter note, for all of you who are so concerned about pollution and energy useage, check your home. I read a report that the average house now creates more pollution then the average car. This is due to power plants etc. that support your house.
So with this in mind contact me for a new high efficiency HVAC system.

I agree with that statement that is is not legal to relocate the cat, however, I believe in honouring the law in spirit, but not the letter. If we were to remove our cats, bad things would happen, however, if we were to replace them with high flow cats, then we would be sniffing clean.
It's all about doing the right thing. I am not a proponent of draconian measures, but if we were to be responsible within the confines of the spirit of the law, we would not see the "man" come down on us so hard.
I would love to see CA loosen some of the mandates they follow here. But they won't... sad, really.
I guess I just want to understand why those in
favour of gutting cats are so passionate about
defending their position.
- There is very little performance gain.
- Removing them takes time, effort and
money to do it properly. - Depending on the year, a PROM change is
going to be necessary to put it together, along
with all the time, money, effort and lost driving
opportuniities that a tune entails. - Removal is not going to lead to big prize
money, a fat sponsorship or even a kiss or
cuddle from a race cutie.
So where's the benefit? I don't get it.
You already know that I stand on the side of
doing what I can to slow the streams of
effluent flowing into the environment.
I realize I'm not going to change your mind.
Just help me a bit with figuring out why it
is so all-fired important to you to be able
to yank these things - is it a freedom of
expression deal or what?

Anybody else got dyno results?

The problem is your continuing to

I'm not gonna take anything you say on this seriously until you ride the metrolink. You're passionate enough about the environment to impose on these people, but not enough to exercise your beliefs.
It's more convenient for you to sit in your chair and type at us and waste electricity than to go trade in your Corvette for a hybrid.
Let it be.

- "As you can see, the 3" catalyst I am using uses very
little power and drops noise levels dramatically."

For so little difference you go catless?
It is too bad that there aren't companion graphs to
chart the 'cat vs no cat' emissions output.

Not sure how you would tie it back in, unless you use the LT1 exhaust manifold as well. And then you would have to modify the air injection system at the least.
If you use the aftermarket bullet cats, everyone that I have seen have located them down stream of the headers. By strict standards this is illegal. May sound dumb to make this illegal but there is logic to it. Example is will the cats get hot enough?
Bottom line is, all of these modifications are illegal unless they are designed for your specific car and they are certified.
I dont believe the law will look at it and say that may work, or our spirit of intentions were good. Rather they want to know is it tested and certified. Otherwise we are breaking the law.

You just don't get what I am saying, are you? I don't think to many of you do. That is so very sad.
And the other thing that pisses me off to no end is how you all lash out at me for having a reasonable belief. All because I am challenging some latent paradigm... odd.
That belief it this: if you have a street driven automobile, maintain a reasonable level of functioning emission controls. It's what I do on all my cars.
I learned this 20 years ago... and thanks to modern technology, it's not hard to maintain.
What you are accusing me of is hypocracy, and you know that's ****.
Should people remove them, probably not.
Do they make a big impact on emissions, evidently not. And this is why. I bought my car, it passed emissions 2 seperate times. While installing my corsa's had the downpipes removed. Low and behold , the cats were completely hollow!!!! For how long ,, who knows. No cats = still passing emmissions? wtf?
Still think its worth the fight? Don't think so.
I think I will take them off my Viper also, that big v10 will burst the ozone layer just as soon as I start it up. Oh I cant wait.
You know I am in the Army and seen Iraq. Iraqi's are more intelligent than we think. They might get ahold of this info and destroy the world by taking the cats off cars. Oh god! Someone better brief the president!

however, thanks for your service to our country.
As you can see, I can separate things.
Its not the message, just the delivery-No one is flaming you for not using a 160 stat or having a Corsa exhaust?
Right or wrong, its about freedom of choice. People are going to do what they want with their cars regardless of anyone's opinion, and flames beget flames.
We are talking about the emissions of a Vette with cats vs. one without functioning cats!!!
THAT's it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like I said before, if you want to free up some power, take out the muffler or gut it out and not the cats. You will get your 3-8hp gain.
Emmissions of a pleasure vehicle... rather insiginficant
Emmissions of a 350, SUV, cammed car driven daily significant
If he wants to bash people for doing one thing he needs to step back and look at what hes doing.

You just don't get what I am saying, are you? I don't think to many of you do. That is so very sad....
Yes, my big 6,000lb pickup is my daily driver. It gets 16mpg highway, 11mpg city. 95% of the time I'm not even hauling anything either. You also drive a sports car, but use it as an appliance to get from point A to point B. You don't race it in any form, street or track. As far as I know, you don't bring it to any cruises or car shows either. But that's your choice to drive something less efficient than is required for the purpose it serves.
I'm not on a mission to make everyone else keep my air clean. You chose that route, so it's your burden to live by the same standard.
You would have a bigger impact on smog if you quit topping off your gas tank and cleaned the burners on your furnace, than you would by pouncing on every single one of these cat threads.
