jeb when you shoot for the record is that still with a six speed or auto trans ?? what motor are you going with? are you still going with a nitrous build?? i decided to change directions and go with a lt1 twin turbo motor!! i have gotten mixed opinions on whether the lt1 block is strong enough!! from what i gathered the lt1 with a partial fill will handle very low four digits with the right forged components!! matt383 all be waiting to find out more about that vette through hot rod mag!!! any fast lt1, irs vettes out there????
LT401 has gone mid to high 10s all motor with IRS.
Gotta keep the ZF if thats the record your shooting for Jeb. 8.75 is the six speed record, that same viper has been 8.20s with an auto on IRS and drag radials.
No, it will be with an auto... The Viper that has gone 8.20's has a solid axle; I've talked to the chassis builder that did the conversion. 8.20's is still easily within the realm of my power, though, as long as the rear holds. If we want to get truly "technical" though, the true indy suspension record currently resides with one of my cryo customers; an import racer named John Shepherd who recently busted the 7's in his 4cyl. AWD Ichipussi Eclipse that uses a modified stock suspension... But since he's one of those awful import guys I don't count him.
Ray, new combination is a 440" SB2.2 based small block, with a large progressive dose of nitrous. Tranny is a Pro-Built TH400, full-manual with t-brake... Rethinking my converter right now though; I'm thinking 5500-6000 rpm off the 'brake will be problematic. Granted I did the same launch with the stick in the car but with about 500 less hp than the new combination. I'm thinking I'll tighten the converter up to 3500-4000 and leave some 60' on the table but keep the rear under the car by softening the initial hit. I've got two gear sets set up in two chunks (one thing I love about the D44 is it's "third member" type installation, kinda like a 9"); one for n/a at 3.92 and the other for N2O with 3.31. Car will be running 325/50/15 ET Radials mostly. I'm hoping to hit a few of the Outlaw DR events; truthfully if I want to go class racing it's the only thing my car would fit in other than NMCA Super Street (mid-7 cars), Outlaw 10.5 (from high 6's to low 7's) is the drag radial events because of the engine combination. For some reason other classes won't let me run those NASCAR heads... But on classes where they're unlimited as to motor and allowed one power adder the limiting factor is usually suspension and tire...That's what it is in radial racing so that's probably what I'm going to spend most of my time doing. Honestly it will probably be more of a toy than anything, though...

hey jeb , you need to post up some pics of that bad boy
Yup...Need to... Of course you'll have to excuse the pics of it in its gutted state. But motor pics will be nice. I'll get my shop bitch to get some up next week while I'm at SEMA.

That's the plan...Unless unforseen events occur like they have the last year and a half my car will be back on the track this spring. Too bad I've been second-guessing the nitrous combination, but that's what happens when you're a baller! Seriously though, if I were doing this again I would've taken some stroke out of it and lowered the compression and put a BIG hairdryer on it (think a Thumper 106). I've got a local racer we did a 406" SB2 for years ago and he's been running a single 101 in a 10.5 Malibu (recently swapped the combo into a Fox-Body) and it's stupid fast but comes out of the hole relatively soft. I'll probably run the N2O on it for this upcoming season and switch out for a turbo later on.
I have six spools on their way to me...Richmond had to make some more. Mackey...I'm with you...The only reason I'm doing it is to see if I can. The track legality of the car is what I'm going to have major issues with and if I go regular class racing with it I'll be installing a ladder-bar solid axle setup. But, if I can make a 44 live to the bottom 8's I'll be happy and so will a lot of others on here.
