I've done this before on the passenger's side of my 1987 coupe. But now I'm replacing the driver side door trim panel and I can't get the manual door lock installed in the accessory panel and get the metal rod into the back of it.
Anyone had this problem?? I worked on this to the point of frustation. I've even undone the door lock from the back of the door to try to make the rod more manuverable.
Any sequence information or trick will be appreciated.
On my 86 (if same) I left off the door handle bezel intalled the door panel, locked the rod (pushed to latch side on door, locked position) then pushed the rod through the hole on bezel while holding dorr handle in open position, installed bezel, then installed plactic piece onto the lock rod.
Don't know if this will help as I have an 84, but if you look on the handle insert there is a cutout on the top. It can't be seen looking staight on. Your put your panel on and move it into position but higher, then you move it down into position and the metal locking bar will slip through the upper cutout. I did have to use a screw driver to add alittle prying action.
