If it runs fine in your car I doubt you need a new PCM. It could be the shops cable or software that is having issues reading your PCM. What do you need done? If its not working I can fix it by replacing it with new flash memory chips and sockets and reflashing it with a fresh GM Cal.

the shop was reading the computer so that they can put a program so that i can start my car and have a base tune before it is dyno tuned. since the computer operates my car, i can't imagine i need a new computer????

I agree, I am not sure what your shop is using to read your PCM. I use a GM Dealer tool, namely a TECH2 which can reflash any current GM PCM, VCM or body module not to mention a myriad of other tests and operations.
