How on earth do you get the runner to plenum bolts in ? I can barely get 1 finger to a couple of the holes . How am I supposed to get the bolts there and started . I'm very close to pulling it back off and getting SLP runners and ported plenum . This is rediculous !! Any help would be appreciated !!! Anybody in the SF bay area want to come help ?
I drilled clearance holes in the plenum and tapped the runner holes, I put button head bolts long enough for them to stick out the bottom of the plenum,
I drilled a hole through the diameter of the bolt and put a cotter pin in the hole so the bolt could never get free and get into the engine.
I used a very small scredriver ratchet with a hex bit.
Worked every well. I took they whole thinking apart because I forgot to run the transmission cable under it.
You wouldn't happen to have an extra set of runner to plenum gaskets would you ? Guess I'll end up ordering from Summit , and try again next weekend to get her running !
I used a ratchet style box end 1/4 wrench for them and then a ratchet wrench 1/4" drive with a 1/4" u joint to get the rest, Took a while, but didn't seem too bad. Valve covers had to be off though.
A tip from Corvette96, slot the runner-plenum bolts so that way you can thread them in at first with the screwdriver through the plenum.
I slotted all the bolts at the end. Then you can hold them with one finger against the hole, and use a srewdriver from the top to get them in (ccw). Just for gettig in, not for the final tq.
You have an '87 I guess by the name? You will not be able to re-use the hardened metal lines that ran under the normal runners. They won't fit under superram runners. You will have to order the '88+ versions of these lines.

Are you talking about the pcv and canister vacuum line ?
I have a super ram on the way so i'm keeping my alert

Yup. There is a line on the passenger side too for the breather valve that goes to the throttlebody. Those have to be replaced with the 88 and up versions. Cheap parts.

Thanks, should i be looking to GM or is there a sane priced part somewhere else.
I just replaced mine using vacuum tubing and some 90* bend parts.
Just an option if the GM route is too pricey.
I didn't even hear about that till after I had figured out my own way.
Also, I wouldn't install them from the plenum. I am sure they wouldn't work themselves out. But as I see it, I would rather spend hours upon hours (it actually was't that bad for me though...) installing the plenum than have an entire cylinder head/motor wiped out by a run-away bolt.

A valid concern. Red Loctite and lock washers have kept mine in place inside the plenum for 22k miles and have been on and off more times than I want to count. Safety wire could also be used if you wanted to drill a hole in the bolt and clean the threads up.
Is it really worth it? I have installed the new intake (almost a year ago) and have been screwin around with the runners and how to get them setup with a few failed attempts. I am planning to sell the 87 as I already bought a 64 so I just want to get it running good, try it out a few spins and then put it on the market.
Spending all of the LIMITED free time I have trying to Jury rig this SuperRam makes me think of returning to the OEM stuff!!!
