What year seats are interchangeable with an 89? And can anyone tell me the RPO codes for sport seats and standard seats, and what the physical differences are between them? Thanks!
I researched this before I replaced my seats and it looked like you could use seats from an 84 up to a 91. However, the 84 - 87 seats were different style than what your 89 has. The side sections are not in sections like they are on the '89. I believe the seatbacks are similar.
In '89 the code for "sport seats, leather" was the same as in '88, RPO AQ9; controls were in the seat bolsters to:
toggle-adjust the angle of the seat back bolsters
toggle-pump the three air bladders in the lower seat back
buttons-release the air from any of the three bladders
toggle-adjust the tilt on the seat back
When I look in the MAM catalog I see that sport seat covers are the same P/N for '84-'88 model years and the same P/N for '89-'90 model years.
Though some details (??) of the seats apparently differ between '88 and '89 style you may be able to install the '84-'88 seats into a '90 Vette.
RPO code for 1989 standard leather seats is AR9. Have already learned there are slight differences between redesigned 89 seats and later ones eg. thru 1993. Bought a mint original 93 lower seat cushion for my 89 only to find out there is a slight difference in the stitching. It appears after studing many pictures that 89 and 90 seats are identical and 91 to 93 seats are identical. I think that the seat frames may cover a larger year span than that. Hoping replacement seats improve as these cars begin to receive NCRS judging! Maybe others can add their observations. Ike
