Default Pass. side hush panel!

I am going after the heater core on my 89. I can't get the pass. side hush panel off. I have been at that for four (4) hrs.! I found two 1/2" nuts that hold the bottom of the panel. The bottom is loose but it won't come out of the molding around the bottom of the dash. I cant find any more screws. Am I missing another 1/2" nut somewhere?
Labor manual calls for four (4) hrs. labor for the whole job. I should probably not do this for a living.
My feeling are to yank it off. I had to stop for a while!!
Any suggestions please!!

Thanks

Are you referring to the part down by your feet, or the foam panel on the dash with the vent in it?

The part down by your feet has 4 small bolts, I believe 8mm. The foam panel (otherwise referred to as the "breadbox") should not have to be removed to access the heater core. It will ultimately cause you more trouble to remove that than it will to work around it.

Your instinct to "yank" is correct. Once all the fasteners are removed from the hush panel, it must be bent into somewhat of a "U" shape to remove it. Yanking it will work fine. It is on the re-installation that you will learn about the "bending" to get it back in there.

I am talking about the carpeted piece under the dash. How many fasteners are we talking about. It appears that the carpet is pushed up into the molding along the bottom of the dash. the side by the door looks like it will pull out. I don't want to destroy it. It feels like there is still a fastener or two. I can pull it out some at the bottom. What a PITA!
Thanks

The hush panel faces down. It is horizontal. There is one on either side of the console and runs under the dash to the carpeted kick panel. The hush panel isn't carpeted in my '84, but it mates up with a carpeted area of the dash at it's rear most edge. That IS a proper item to remove to access the heater core.

The carpeted panel between the dash and the hush panel does not need to be removed to access the core.
