I put 9.5 on the front and rear of my 95 coupe. that will make it possible to rotate your tires.
I would go with 17x9.5" all around. Even if you're not buying new tires for now. The stock front 255/45/17s will fit the 9.5" wide wheels just fine. When you decide to buy new tires just get 275/40/17 all around.

Normally, you would want to go with the largest wheel/tire combo you can fit on the front of a car....but, the Corvette engineers decided on the narrower 8.5"/255 fronts on the last, most highly developed C4's for a reason.
If you don't need the last iota of front end grip (track car/autoxer), then you may be happier with the 8.5"/255's. I understand that it greatly diminishes tramlining.

While this is true, in my experience I didn't notice an increase in this "tramlining" when I stepped up to 17x9.5" wheels and 275/40/17 tires up front.
