1993 LT1 TPS Learn Procedure
I'm going to replace the throttle body this weekend, and while I'm there I'll change the IAC and TPS. The manual say's if replaceing the TPS, you have to perform the learn procedure with the Tech 1 tool. I don't have the scan tool. What happens if I donT learn it?
I have purchased a remote IAT sensor kit I plan to install (i know, i know). Where is a good spot to put it to get cool airflow without exposing it too much to the elements?
My door locks stick. You press the button, and nothing, or not much happens unless you press the button again and again. Is this a lubrication problem or a lock problem or what?
Thanks as always for your expert advice!

The TPS learn procedure affects the ASR only.
The output of the TPS goes directly to the ECM for most TPS related functions.
But, that output of the TPS also goes to the TPS buffer/amplifier (this prevents the TPS signal from being loaded down by the additional component), and the output of the TPS buffer goes to the ABS/ASR computer for the traction control.
So, if you don't do the TPS learn procedure, the worst thing that can happen is the ASR won't work correctly.

Not just "any" scan-tool will do the TPS learn.
There are probably others, but the Vetronix Tech-1A, MasterTech, and probably the Tech-2 will do it.
And, they are not cheap -- unless you can get a used one.

I just ran a search on the scanner and they are way more expensive then I would have thought. I don't have thousands to spend on a scan tool. Is the only alternative to get the idle learn done go to the dealer and have them do it for $80?
Thanks,
Dave

There is an IAC relearn procedure that I've had to do. TPS is self kinda a self learning deal on the LT1 though. If there is a learn procedure I've never had to do it. Just make sure the voltage is within the proper range for it to read as "0" and then make sure that it actually goes to 100 when you press the throttle all the way down (requires a scan tool) and you're done.
As far as the IAT relocation, save your money. Tricking the car into believing that the intake air is colder than it actually is by the time it gets to the engine will only cause it to add more fuel. This is great if you want it to run richer than it's supposed to. GM did their homework and the IAT sensor is near the actual intake for a reason.
Ugh.... Just noticed this thread is 7 years old.
