Everyone, you all put me to shame. While my compartment
is clean enough for minor maintenance, I wouldn't open
up anything critical or show it without expending a fair
amount of elbow grease first.

But I noticed an item that shows up in a few pics. While it
might just be due to lighting or camera angles, I thought I
would mention brake fluid condition.

A fabricator who also judges at local shows told me
that something that always jars him when he marks the
underhood area is the sight of an immaculately detailed
engine beside a master cylinder full of old brake fluid.

Unless it has dye like ATE Superblue, brake fluid should
look the colour of a nice Pilsner beer. If it looks like
Malt then it really needs to be changed - for braking
safety and corrosion prevention.

Flush with fluid from a new sealed container once a year
or more often to keep the moisture content down and to
keep the colour looking good.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to start scrubbing, polishing
and painting so that the rest of my compartment matches
up to the contents of my M/C.

I must beg to differ with you on that, what if its Mobil brake fluid and its dark blue? Not all brake fluids are light in colour, some are dark!!! How does my fluid look to you by the way? I had it changed about 4 days before some of my pics were taken...

Colour depends on brand and may differ between silicone brake fluid and 'ordinary' DOT 4 or less. Mines been flushed about 3 or 4 times recently, due to new brakes etc.

Check my post again, fourth paragraph:
Unless it has dye like ATE Superblue, brake fluid should
look the colour of a nice Pilsner beer.
I don't think we need to argue. I just wanted to pass along a remark
someone made - do with it what you will.

Now I need to get back to cleaning up the rest of my compartment to
try to catch up with what you and the others here have achieved ...

I've seen green, blue, amber (the most common as u say) and even red brake fluid; depends mostly on manufacturer and whether it's silicon or not. As you correctly say or imply, there are dyes used but these vary.

Anyway, we risk going off topic with this so I'll just say that I agree whole-heartedly that fresh clean brake fluid certainly does enhance the overall appearance of an engine bay.
