You're lucky they didn't charge you to R&R the engine to change the coil... or did they? BTW, whose idea was it to replace the fuel pump?
RACE ON!!![/QUOTE]
You're gonna get me started. I pulled the car out of the garage, washed it, and it would not start to pull it back in. I had it towed to the shop. When we got there I told the criminal the symptoms and he said "fuel pump". He said he would do a diagnostic to confirm and I went to work. He called and said it had low fuel pressure at the rail and that the fuel filter was clogged. He then said he checked upstream of the filter and it had low pressure from the pump. He said the filter and pump needed to be changed. Not unreasonable for a 100k car. then 2.5 hrs for the pump set me off, but he had my car and it didn't run. When he called me about 2 hrs later and said the car still didn't start because of the coil I just said fix it. I picked it up, paid the man and left without saying a word. Criminals don't learn and I didn't want to go to the big house.
I didn't mind paying for the parts, or having them installed. The coil was bad and fuel stuff was probably coming due. But I think he charged me for a diagnostic he did not do and for dropping the tank which he did not do.
If this had happened to a person who does not know about cars they would not have questioned it.
A good mechanic/technician is worth their fee, but there are enough crooks to give them all a bad name.
Re-read post number 8. Draining the tank makes for a bigger explosion. A full tank explodes with a lot less violence, but the fire lasts longer.
RACE ON!!!
Oh I did read it and I agree. I did mine with a full tank for that very reason.
However, as much as I agree with you on a half tank versus a full tank exploding easier because of fumes. I think that if I was forced at gun point to do so, I would rather hold a lit match over a completely drained and dry cell than a full one.
I was just thinking it may have been one of those liability things they put in the book.
