For my 87 coupe, my spare is junk. (I know, They were junk when new), Leaks like crazy around the beed and none of the tire dealers will allow it in their shop, let alone fix it. They tell me I have to buy a hole new outfit from the dealer.
I know many of us don't carry a sapre anymore, but my club does a lot of long distant cruses and I don't want to get a flat in the middle of nowhere and all the pain that goes along with that.
What I'm wondering is, is there some REAL wheel and tire I could buy that would fit my car (and tire carrier) and still be lighter than a full size version?? You know,,,like a steel Camaro wheel with a small tire??
You got a point! I think, tomorrow, I'll put my carrier in the up position and measure the internal deminsions
I guess the later spare from a junk yard would be the easy way out, but I can see facing the same problem every time one of them developes a problem. Know what I mean, Vern?

I'ed love your thoughts on this..
Look on Ebay. Many of the late 3rd gen camaros and firebirds had aluminum wheel spares.
