Default 95 Auto Trans Noise

Hi All. Ive Got A 95 Coupe Auto. Had For 2 Years. Year Ago When I Slow To Stop Or For A Turn And Accelerate, The Trans Downshifts From Third To Second With A Clunk, Then When It Shifts From Second Up To Third There Is A Lighter Clunk.
Trans Man Thought It Was Simple Wear In Driveline, But It Doesnt Do It When Shifting From Reverse To Forward, Etc. Wheel Bearings Are Ok, Had All U Joints Replaced.
Any Suggestions?

Gordon

Corvettes use stiff accumulator springs. This combined with a solid mounted rear, tend to make these clunks. It is possible the trans was rebuilt and the anti clunk spring (used to hold the lo-roller clutch assembly tight)was left out. This is not likely because it would likely have torn out the case by now. Sounds like normal noise. I would look at the backlash in the rear next.

Pete, Wouldnt The Backlash Cause Clunking In All Gear Changes, And Especially From Reverse To Drive, Or Can It Be In Only One Gear?

True. I re read your origional post and it sure does sound like typical c4 driveline noise. I just freshened my trans and reduced the endplay in the box. Mine got a little quieter but is still there. It seems like endplay in the trans and case bushing wear compound this clunk a little bit though. I certainly would not worry or pull anything apart yet.
