Weird Idle Problem on 94

After I built my 396 engine, I bought a chip from Alvin PCMforless especially programmed for my engine. It died out on me every time I came to a halt; the engine was also running very rich. He then sent me another chip but this didn’t help any, the engine was still running very rich and still died out on me every time I came to a halt. I then bought all the stuff needed to write and burn my own chip. The very first chip I burned corrected the engine dying out on me. It took although quite a few chips to get it running the way I wanted.
To sum it up, it’s all in timing and running too lean in your case.
