Hello, new to the forum, new Vette owner. I have a 1985 Vette that was given to me as a gift. It came from Texas, to Denver, Co. Now in Texas the Vette rode perfect(only 29,561 miles on it). When I got it up to Denver it has trouble starting, when I give it gas it will hesitate for a moment then go, doesn't do that all the time just every once in awhile. I was wondering could it just need a tune up due to the fact that it is use to running at low altitude levels and now it is at a high. Or could the injectors need to be cleaned out? Thanks for your help.
Welcome to the forum - a 1985 Vette with only 29,561 miles is a damn nice gift!
How do you know it ran perfectly in Texas? Did you test drive it? If so, was it warmed up when you did?
The ECM does have long and short term "memory" which would certainly go through a short period of re-adjustment due to the difference in air density, but I don't *think* it would show up as the symptom you are describing.
As a new owner, it's certainly not a bad idea to do a tune up / perform routine maintenance, but there could be another reason for the hesitation. Are you getting any codes / Service Engine Soon light?
Agree with above - my first thought would be gas - isn't it a different blend for your altitude? If you have a scanner, see if it's lean. Water, even small amounts, can cause a lean condition and the ECM will pulse the injectors a little longer making it too rich. Cars that have sat, without a full tank, will end up with moisture in the mix.
Well it was my fathers Vette, he got a c6, and didn't want to sell his. He drove it up to Denver to give it to me. Took a ride in it and I noticed the problem, then I took him for a ride and he said it didn't do that in Texas or all his trip up here. So I foungd it strange that it all the sudden started doing that. Have put that 44k in it to see if i could clean the injectors a little, but it is still doing it. I am not getting any codes from it at all. My pops said it fires right up when in Texas but not up here???

My Vette and my 02 Impala intermittantly hesitate (at low speed and start up) when I drive down to Denver, (Denver is only 5280ft high) or on trips to the coast. So it may take the computer a while to learn.
My Impala, will run great until I get that first tank of gas at a lower altitude then it will stall when I leave the gas pumps and within 50 miles of the fillup I will get a check engine light, the car will still run smoothly at the 85-90mph the cruise is set at however, the light bugs the **** out of my so (This has happened on every one of my numerous trips back to the east coast) Now I bring a ratcheting box wrench and disconnect the battery and which resets the light and viola no further problems. Since I have trouble with altitude changes on both of my GM cars I believe it is a computer quirk.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery?
There is another forum member that has been PMing me for months about the same altitude issues so it is not just us!
Maybe he will post with his insight!

The Check Engine Light means there's a troublecode. It may still be in History, so I'd see what it is and that will offer some clue as to what the problem is.
I guess the 44k is working, because the hesitation hasn't happend since a week ago. Still slow to start up, going to due a tune up and see if that helps at all.
