I did a quick search, and didn't see this mentioned. My 1996 coupe LT4 has two hatch release switches in the car, a yellow button in the console, and a black switch on the driver's door in the door jamb. It is only accessable with the door open.
The door located switch doesn't seem to work, what are the odds that it is linked to the fact that my drivers side door switch doesn't work either?
I did find that a replacement door dome light switch is available from a few sources and I will probably mess with it this winter sometime, but I thought I'd ask about the hatch switch in case there is some 'secret' that could help me out before I dig into it.

Does your PKE work? I have the same problem with my door jamb switch, and my PKE won't lock the doors unless I first open then close the passenger side door.
There is a door hatch release switch in each door. If both door release switches will not operate the hatch, notice if your courtesy lights stay on for about 30 seconds after closing an opened door. If the courtesy lights don't work and time out, the courtesy light timer circuit needs to be diagnosed. If the right door hatch switch works, then your problem lies with the driver door switch and its wire to the courtesy light timer and its other wire to the hatch release relay.
Not in my '96. The guy before me had the car for 5 years (Airline Mechanic) and didn't even notice that switch...makes you wonder.
Anyway, the switch didn't work, but I kept cycling it. After about a week, it started working and has been perfect ever since.
Yeah, I was pretty sure I only had one switch. I might mess with it today. I was surprised when I first heard of cycling a switch to clean it, but it works, and its almost 'common sense' when you think about it(although, apparently not to me ). A ham friend showed that to me. also, I use De-oxit D5, which seems to work wonders sometimes.
I was just wondering if it was tied to the dome switch for some odd 'safety' reason.
Oh, I haven't tested my PKE yet, but I think the battery is dead on the key fob, and the one key fob I did get, is in pretty rough shape.
My '89 has switches in both doors along with one in the console.
The door switch(es?) v-occasionally fail to operate. I have reason to
believe the driver's door panel has been off for some reason in the past
and I suspected there might be a loose connection on the harness.
Another possibility is that the doorjamb switch is sometimes slow to
release/open due to sticking. I wonder now whether it disables the
hatch release when closed - if so, this would explain the periodic issues
with the hatch switch. (Edit: if I had read JFB's post above I wouldn't
need to be speculating about this.)
Does anyone have issues with a recommendation about a shot of
contact/points cleaner into the hatch switch body (if the door jamb
switch is found to be functioning normally.)
