headlight switch **** removal
Does anyone know how to remove the headlight switch **** off the rod that pulls out to turn the headlights on? I am trying to remove the tach bezel on a 1988 but it can't get by the ****.

On my 88 conv the **** is held on w/ a small spring tab behind the ****. Reach behind the **** w/ your finger and and you should feel the metal tab right next to the shaft. Lift on it and pull the **** off. Helps to have finger nails.

Same thing happened to me, bought a new **** and shaft from eckler's. Just seperated the new **** from the new shaft and put in on old shaft. Much easier than taking out the old shaft from the dash and having to press that little button on the headlight switch.

(for the same 88 ) this leads me to ask two questions....1) on the gauge face-plate bezel in front of the tach and speedo, is the headlight switch insignia "back-lit" when the lights are turned on? 2) also, the insignia on the center console for the windows, etc., are they backlit or is all of it painted on?...thanks!
