Default C4 Ground Clearance?

Would an American Mid Rise Lift when collapsed has 4.75" above the ground too high for the Vette clearance? Can I drive the car over it every day without hitting the undercarrige of the car?
http://www.americanautomotiveequipme...1668/index.htm

6,000 lb. lifting capacity
Length - 90"
Width - 39"
Adjustable sliding radius arms
Collapsed height - 4.75"
Max lifting height (w/truck adapters) 54"
Power unit - 110v
Price - $1195.00

Thanks,

It'll be freaking close.

Ground clearence for my '85 is listed at 5 inches- though it seems less, maybe 4.5" or so...

You don't say what year you have, but if you check the model center at www.corvetteactioncenter.com, you'll find your answer...
This is where I found mine:
http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...5/85specs.html

EDIT:::: Just checked your profile and saw you have an '88... the ground clearence is listed at 4.7 inches...

methinks thats cutting it too close

Is it possible to dig a slight despression in your garage floor? say... about 4.75 inches deep. That way after this thing is installed it would be flush with the floor?

I dunno, just a thought.

That would cost more to dig a depression in the garage floor, might as well dig deeper to reinforce that spot to handle the weight of the vehicle. We are talking about residential attach garage. Too much money...
The lift is movable, it does not have to be install/stationary.

that seems like a good idea. just some pads to get the car up higher seems like it would work.

Buy a pair of 10- or 12-foot-long 2x12s and a length of 2x4. Cut as steep of a bevel as your circular saw can manage on one end of each 2x12. Cut a pair of 2x4 blocks that are as long as the 2x12s are wide. Screw one of these blocks on top of each of the two 2x12s, at the end opposite from the bevel (with the bevel facing up). Lay the assembies out one on each side of the lift at a spacing equal to the car's track, and leave them there unless they're in the way for some reason while the car is either absent or up on the lift.

Pull the car up onto them every time you enter the garage, and it should get you plenty of clearance above the lift. Pull the car forward until the front tires contact the 2x4 stop blocks at the far end -- the blocks will keep you from driving off the far end, unless you get stupid about it. The bevel at the leading edge will help ease the tires up onto the 2x12s.

If you have any trouble getting the car aligned with the 2x12s as you pull in, consider hanging a mirror on the back wall of the garage so that you can see the front tires and 2x12s from the driver's seat.

Be well,

SJW

Or.... You could buy a Kwiklift for the same money and drive onto it...

Nice answer SJW, you said exactly what I was thinking, but very succinct.

VQT, that jack doesn't require a hardened pad does it? That looks sweet. It's even cheaper than the one at harbor freight:

I think you do need the harden pads.
Eagle Equipment has more information on it but it cost almost $2000 for the same lift.
http://eagleequip.com/page/EE/CTGY/LI-LM
For $4000 Eagle has a scissor lift that have room in the middle so you can take the transmission out. The collasped height is 5.5"

http://eagleequip.com/page/EE/CTGY/LI-SC

I was hoping to get a lift that can be place in my garage to be able to lift it up faster/safer than using the car jacks and low enough for ground clearance to drive the car above it every time. Kwiklift is too low and still have to drive on it every day to park the car. There isn't enough space to store the Kwiklift, that thing is huge.
Looks like I am back to jack stand now.
